John Percy details how much West Brom are likely to give Slaven Bilic to spend on transfers

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic is likely to have over £20million to spend on transfers ahead of next season, according to Telegraph journalist John Percy.

Writing on the Telegraph website, Percy reported that over the next 24 hours, the Baggies will begin planning for life back in the Premier League after securing automatic promotion from the Championship on Wednesday night.

It is understood that Bilic is set to meet with the Albion hierarchy to discuss his budget, which is reportedly going to be north of £20million.

It is a far cry from what Aston Villa and even Sheffield United spent last summer when they were promoted to the Premier League with Villa splashing out £144.5m on 12 players and the Blades spending £43million [Sky Sports]. Norwich, who will finish bottom of the Premier League, spent just £1.1million.

We are expecting it to be a tough summer transfer window for a lot of clubs due to the coronavirus’ impact on the game’s economy.

For the first time in a long time, it is likely that overall spending will be down and West Brom’s work in the transfer window cannot really be compared to what happened last summer.

But the Baggies still need to strengthen their squad.

As good as they have been in the Championship this term, the spine of the team needs improving drastically while a new left-back and replacing the loan players is also something Bilic and Luke Dowling need to work out.

We have faith in Bilic and Dowling doing the right things after their promising work last summer.

Let’s hope the forced frugal approach to the window means they can unearth some bargains.
