Confirmed: Premier League release start date for 2020/21 season

The Premier League have confirmed that the 2020/21 season will start on the 12th of September.

West Brom sealed their promotion to the Premier League on Wednesday evening after their 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers.

The Baggies failed to win any of their final four fixtures in the Championship, with Brentford missing two opportunities to leapfrog the Albion.

West Brom have joined Leeds United in the top-flight next season, with both maintaining their spots that they had worked hard to secure before the enforced COVID-19 break.

The Premier League confirmed the news on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon, with shareholders making the decision.

They also confirmed that the next season will conclude towards the end of May on the 23rd of that month in 2021.

That means that the English top-flight has only extended the season by a matter of weeks, with a regular-season finishing at the beginning of May usually.

That gives Slaven Bilic and the Baggies seven weeks to ready their squad for the Premier League and finishing in the automatic promotion spots certainly helped.

Should the Baggies have dropped into the play-offs, they would have been playing for an extra two weeks until the beginning of August.

Leeds and West Brom will be happy with this announcement, but the likes of Brentford, Fulham, Cardiff and Swansea will face a race against time to be ready for the Premier League should they earn promotion.
