Exclusive: West Brom tipped to make four summer signings by ex-Baggie

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips can see West Brom signing up to four new players in the summer as they strengthen their squad for the Premier League.

Albion secured promotion back to the top-flight on Wednesday and now the celebrations have started to die down, the club will be starting to make plans for life back in the big-time.

Phillips believes that exits for Gareth Barry and Chris Brunt mean that Slaven Bilic will need to add an extra body to his squad in order to get ready for the Premier League.

“I think the midfield area could be okay,” Phillips told West Brom News. “They’ll probably look to bring in another one with Gareth Barry and Chris Brunt moving on.

“They have got Rekeem Harper, Jake Livermore, Romaine Sawyers and Filip Krovinovic playing there.

“Down the spine, they’re going to need three or four players to have a real good chance of staying up.”

West Brom might have to take a frugal approach to the upcoming transfer window with the Telegraph reporting that the club likely has over £20million to spend on new players.

That doesn’t seem a lot based on what Aston Villa and Fulham have splashed out in the last couple of seasons upon their promotions to the top-flight.

Some of that money could be used to secure loanees on permanent deals with Krovinovic reportedly valued at £6million.

It could be a tough summer for the Baggies due to the coronavirus’ impact on the economy but Luke Dowling has already proven he had a good eye for a deal.

In other West Brom news, in another exclusive story by this site, the Baggies have opened talks over a new contract for this attacker.
