‘Incredible’ – Robert Earnshaw delivers Twitter message to West Brom after PL promotion

Former West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw has sent his congratulations to the Baggies after they secured promotion back to the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Albion hung on to second place in the Championship after a fraught night of action that saw themselves, Brentford, and Fulham all drop points against sides significantly further down the table.

But in the end, a 2-2 draw against QPR was enough to ensure that Slaven Bilic’s men will be playing top flight football next season.

And Earnshaw, who played for the Baggies between 2004 and 2006, was quick to offer his best wishes after a tight automatic promotion battle.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the former Wales international said: “Congratulations to my previous team West Brom on returning to the Premier League.

“Incredible achievement and season you all have had.”

It was tight but we got there in the end.

Going into the restart with the points advantage that we had over the play-off places, it seemed almost unthinkable that we would have to take our battle for a Premier League place right down to the final day of the season.

But after a pretty shaky run of form, that’s exactly how it ended up, and were it not for a late collapse from a resurgent Brentford, we may well have been facing a play-off run right about now.

That in itself would have been a disaster.

The play-offs are a lottery at the best of times, as the cliche goes, but to go into them off the back of a slump in form would have been a major test for Albion.

In fact, Danny Mills even went as far as to suggest that failing to make the automatic spots would have been a “massive blow” for the Baggies.

Thankfully, we don’t have to think about any of that, and we can just sit back and relax knowing that next year we will be a Premier League side.
