West Brom decide £18.2m-rated player tops striker shopping list for summer – report
West Brom have made Fenerbache forward Vedat Muriqi their number one striker target for the summer transfer window, according to Yeni Safak.
The Turkish news outlet claims that the Baggies will try and negotiate a deal for the 26-year-old Kosovo international ahead of next season after securing promotion to the Premier League.
It is understood that Fenerbahce want £18.2million for the striker.
Muriqi has scored 17 goals and supplied seven assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Fenerbahce this season.
Kevin Phillips has recently told West Brom News that Albion’s priority this summer should be to sign themselves a new striker who can score the goals to keep them in the Premier League next term.
However, the ex-West Brom striker has warned his former club about taking a risk on someone like Muriqi, who lacks Premier League experience.
Speaking in May, Phillips told West Brom News: “I’d be very cautious of going for someone like that because when you’re promoted, you want that player to hit the ground running and score goals early to keep you in the Premier League. It’s very, very difficult for a foreign player to do that straight away.”
Muriqi’s had a really good season with Fenerbahce but we are still yet to be convinced that Albion are seriously pushing to sign the Kosovan.
A lot of stories have come out of Turkey this season, with one of the more surprising being that Fenerbahce wanted to hire Slaven Bilic as their manager.
It seems Bilic’s links to Turkish football, having previously managed Besiktas, means that there could be more links for Baggies fans to expect this season and, potentially, take with a pinch of salt.
In other West Brom news, in another exclusive story by this site, the Baggies have opened talks over a new contract for this attacker.
