Exclusive: Bilic green lights new deal for West Brom forward after dazzling season

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has approved plans to hand a new deal to striker Callum Morton after impressing on loan at Northampton this season, West Brom News can reveal.

Morton, 20, scored eight goals in 12 appearances after joining the Cobblers on loan in January, helping them win promotion to League One in the process.

One of Morton’s goals came as Northampton beat Exeter 4-0 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley.

Now, a Hawthorns source has told West Brom News that talks have started about getting Morton tied down to fresh terms after Bilic gave the green light to discussions.

Morton entered the last year of his deal with the Baggies last month and after such an impressive season, tying him down to longer terms makes a lot of sense given his potential.

West Brom have already lost one highly-rated youngster this summer with Nathan Ferguson leaving at the end of his contract to join Crystal Palace.

It remains to be seen if Morton will break into Bilic’s first-team plans at The Hawthorns next season but the former Yeovil forward is open to being sent out on loan again.

Speaking to Albion’s official website in July, Morton said: “The aim when you are at your parent club is always to play first-team football there but if that’s not possible for whatever reason, or if they don’t think I’m ready yet, then I’ll happily go on another loan to whatever level is deemed necessary for me to play.”
