Report – West Brom plot to rekindle interest in PL striker, current boss willing to sell
West Brom are keen on signing West Ham striker Albien Ajeti, according to reliable Hammers source ExWHUemployee.
The 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact for the Irons, and has not scored or provided a single assist in his debut season in England.
But it is understood that the Baggies, who were eager to sign the player from FC Basel last summer, could rekindle their interest in the forward.
Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee claimed that Albion boss Slaven Bilic is still an admirer of the Switzerland international despite his difficult start to life in England.
The prominent in-the-know source has also suggested that David Moyes is open to the prospect of selling Ajeti, although at this stage it is understood that a move to Celtic is more likely than a switch to The Hawthorns.
On the face of it, a move for Ajeti doesn’t seem like the smartest idea.
This is a player who has barely even looked like scoring during his first season in England, and who has recorded an xG of just 0.12 per game in the Premier League this term, as per Wyscout.
Likewise his shot accuracy stands at 0%, having failed to have an effort on target all season.
Is that really the kind of striker we want to be signing to spearhead our return to the top flight?
We’re not so sure it is.
Of course, Ajeti is still young enough whereby he could improve drastically with a little time and faith, but honestly, we would be quite happy to let this one disappear without a trace.
