Daryl Burgess wants West Brom to sign centre-forward with 47 career PL goals
Former West Brom defender Daryl Burgess wants the Baggies to sign Troy Deeney after Watford were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday.
Deeney, 32, is arguably one of the most important players at Vicarage Road with the striker netting 10 goals in 27 appearances this season for the Hornets.
Watford won just one of their 11 league matches without the club captain this term but they may have to get used to life without him in the Championship as the former Walsall striker admitted his future is up in the air after relegation was confirmed at the weekend [BBC Sport].
As is always the case, fans were quick to jump onto Twitter to talk about which players they would like to see signed from relegated clubs and Burgess believes that Deeney is someone who could come in handy at The Hawthorns next term.
The ex-defender wrote on his personal Twitter account: “[Would] anybody else have Troy Deeney at The Hawthorns next season?” Burgess then added a hands-up emoji, signalling that he would like to see the Birmingham-born striker back in the West Midlands.
Deeney has proven that he can come up with some big moments at Watford but he is still someone who is older than all the strikers West Brom currently have at their disposal.
Still, Deeney has plenty of Premier League experience by scoring 47 times in 163 top-flight appearances in his career.
Kevin Phillips has previously told West Brom News that he wants to see the Baggies go after a “proven Premier League striker” this summer and Deeney clearly fits that bill.
He’s also a local lad with a great history of scoring against Aston Villa, which is bound to come in handy next term with three West Midlands clubs in the top-flight.
However we cannot go signing a player just because he hates Villa or because he steps up and performs in one in five matches.
Deeney might be a good option to have but he cannot be the first-choice striker going into next season.
In other West Brom news, a Portuguese newspaper has issued an update on the Baggies’ pursuit of Filip Krovinovic.
