David Ornstein details outcome of Premier League meeting, staggered start possible for WBA

West Brom stumbled across the line when sealing promotion to the Premier League, but that has already been forgotten about at The Hawthorns.

All eyes will be on the Premier League now for the Baggies, who will join Leeds United in the top-flight.

It has already been confirmed that the 2020/21 season will start on the 12th of September, with the fixture release date still unknown.

Premier League clubs held a meeting in the past week to discuss the new season, with the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the start date.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has detailed the outcome of those meetings, claiming that a staggered restart is very likely.

Each club agreed that they need a 30-day break minimum before the restart, with clubs still in European competitions potentially playing until the end of August.

That obviously doesn’t affect West Brom, but if they were down to play the likes of Manchester United in the opening fortnight, that game could be rescheduled due to their commitments in the Europa League.

Nothing will be normal or straight-forward about next season’s Premier League, but for West Brom and Leeds, they will get their deserved break.

The Baggies will have a seven-week break after making sure they didn’t need the play-offs, but many clubs won’t get that before the next campaign.

Compare that to the likes of the Championship play-off winners and clubs in European competitions, and Slaven Bilic’s squad will be fresh and ready.
