‘Heard he’s an Albion fan’, ‘Sign him up’ – Many West Brom fans want club to sign Eng U21 player

West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after the Cherries’ relegation was confirmed on Sunday.

Ramsdale, 22, revealed last year, via the Bournemouth Echo, that he is a West Brom supporter.

Sam Johnstone has been criticised for his performances in the Championship and given Bournemouth’s relegation to the second-tier, it seems a number of fans would rather see the England Under-21 international play in goals for them in the Premier League than current number one Johnstone.

Ramsdale kept five clean sheets and conceded 62 goals in 37 appearances as Bournemouth were relegated this season.

While those numbers are less than impressive, stats by WhoScored show that Ramsdale ranks sixth in the Premier League for the number of saves made per game [3.4] out of goalkeepers with more than 10 appearances.

Bournemouth concede a lot of shots with 14.7 fired at them per game in the Premier League this season – the fourth highest in the league – so to judge Ramsdale’s stats is tricky because they are affected largely by the inept defending in front of him.

Still, the fact he’s a West Brom supporter and Johnstone isn’t the most popular of goalkeepers has led to Albion fans wanting to see Ramsdale head to The Hawthorns this summer.

Ramsdale is a good, young goalkeeper who can definitely improve.

But we do not see West Brom splashing the cash on a new first-choice goalkeeper when they clearly see Johnstone as being good enough to carry the number one jersey into the Premier League after two seasons of starting every game in the Championship.
