‘One or two might leave’ – Luke Dowling details West Brom transfer plans for Premier League
Luke Dowling has admitted that a couple of West Brom players will leave in the summer in preparation for the Premier League.
The Baggies director detailed the Albion’s transfer plans, admitting that they won’t spend as much money as their near rivals Aston Villa did last summer.
It is expected that they will try and replicate Sheffield United, by using the majority of this season’s squad with some reinforcements where needed.
Dowling believes that Norwich didn’t do enough to prepare for the top-flight, and detailed the type of players they will be looking at.
“I can say, unfortunately, that we won’t have the money that Villa have spent,” Dowling told BT Sport, via Birmingham Live.
“We will spend more than what Norwich had to spend. We’ll look to be in the Sheffield United bracket. That doesn’t necessarily mean we finish where Sheffield United have finished – they’ve had a wonderful season.
“One or two might leave this summer because that’s just how things work, but we must bring players in who have got value. They might not be those sexy names, we didn’t do that in the summer, but who can add something to the team.”
Dowling is absolutely spot on. West Brom need to be smart and not make the same mistakes that others have made before.
Aston Villa may have survived, but without a near-perfect final month, they would have been destined for the Championship. Fulham also spent over £100million, and they were easily relegated two seasons ago.
Deals such as the one for Matheus Pereira are exactly what the Baggies should be looking for. Who could leave the Hawthorns? We took a look at three possible exits recently, with the likes of Kenneth Zohore surely destined for the back door this summer.
