West Brom duo face two-week quarantine with training to start in three weeks – report

West Brom duo Kyle Edwards and Jonathan Leko face going into quarantine for two weeks as they jetted out to holiday in Spain last week, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet claims that Edwards, 22, and Leko, 21, had been staying at a villa on the Spanish mainland with Leeds trio Kalvin Phillips, Tyler Roberts and Ian Poveda.

Leeds have advised their players to return home after the UK government announced that anyone returning from holiday in Spain must go into quarantine for two weeks. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, as quoted by Channel4, says it was “absolutely necessary”.

It remains to be seen which other West Brom players are currently out of the country celebrating promotion to the Premier League but Edwards and Leko now face two weeks of quarantine ahead of pre-season training starting in three weeks’ time.

The Athletic adds that a large group of Albion players were planning to fly out to Spain but have now changed their plans.

It is a shame that Edwards and Leko’s celebrations have been dampened by this but, at the end of the day, these are still unprecedented times we’re living in and any sudden changes like this are bound to be done in the best interests of public health and safety.

West Brom’s stance is not clear in this report but it is likely they are taking the same approach as Leeds, especially as they have a group of players out in Spain together and are both working on similar timescales to one another after winning promotion from the Championship.
