Bundesliga striker dreams of PL move as West Brom eye summer swoop, clause expires soon – report
West Brom target Sebastian Andersson dreams of playing in the Premier League with speculation surrounding his future at Union Berlin, according to Kicker.
The German magazine claims that Newcastle, Leeds and newly-promoted Albion are all in the hunt to sign the 29-year-old, who is also being eyed up by Lille and Schalke.
Celtic are also said to be considering a £5.4milion bid for the Sweden international after he impressed in the Bundesliga this season by scoring 12 goals in 33 league appearances.
Andersson also has a release clause in his contract at Union Berlin which is reportedly in the “mid-single-digit million range”. However, the clause, which expires in August, is 30 per cent higher for English clubs and a decision is set to be made in the next two weeks.
After clinging promotion to the Premier League on the final day of the Championship season, West Brom face a summer transfer window where they simply have to sign a new striker.
Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin played their part in the successful promotion bid but it would be beyond delusion to think we can avoid an instant relegation if we go into next season with one of them two spearheading the attack.
Andersson has proven at Union Berlin this season that he can score important goals to keep a newly-promoted team in the top-flight with him finding the back of the net against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach and Frankfurt.
Kevin Phillips has previously told West Brom News that the club should pursue strikers with Premier League experience this summer but, if not, they should look at players who have proven themselves in a league like the Bundesliga.
Speaking in May, Phillips said: “I would certainly look at someone who’s got that Premier League experience or maybe look at someone in Germany, where it isn’t too dissimilar to our league.”
Andersson’s affordable release clause and his goal record in the Bundesliga suggest he could be a solid addition to Slaven Bilic’s attack ahead of next season.
In other West Brom news, Daryl Burgess has urged the club to sign this 32-year-old striker.
