Senior WBA figure opens up on PL ‘dream’, names rival boss who ‘changed football’

West Brom assistant Dean Racunica has opened up on the prospect of competing in the Premier League next season.

The Baggies can relax for the time being after wrapping up their promotion to the top flight on the final day of the Championship season.

But Racunica is already looking ahead to the new campaign, and the opportunity to pit his wits against some of the biggest names in football management.

Speaking to The Athletic, the 50-year-old also spoke about some of the prior misconceptions he had about the English game before joining Albion.

He said: “A few years ago, I thought England was all about long balls but that is not the case.

“You have so many good players here and so many teams who want to play. For us, this 12 months was like 10 years, especially in this situation with coronavirus.

“The Premier League is like a dream. I can’t get my head around the fact that, in three weeks, we will be starting pre-season for the Premier League.

“Pep Guardiola will sit 10 metres from us — the guy for, for me, who changed football.”

Racunica has hit the nail on the head here.

Whether it’s Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, or any of the world beating talent they have in their respective squads, playing in the Premier League is all about competing with the very best.

Let’s be frank, we all know that next season will be a challenge.

But what a challenge to face up to, and what a reward on offer if we are successful.

West Brom should be a Premier League club, and now that we have a chance, it’s imperative that we don’t slip out of the top flight again at the first time of asking.
