View: FA plans to introduce fans at August event could benefit WBA in Premier League
The Hawthorns has been a ghost-town for months now, with fans missing the chance to witness West Brom promoted to the Premier League.
Of course, the Baggies faithful got to watch the moment on TV but that is never the same as being in the thick of the action.
Massive crowds gathered outside the ground after the 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers last week, and the sooner fans are back, the better.
The Sun has reported that the FA are taking their first steps to reintroduce fans in August, with the Community Shield potentially a test event.
It is claimed that there could be 15-20,000 fans allowed at Wembley to watch Liverpool take on either Arsenal or Chelsea in the capital.
This could only be good news for the Baggies, who will be itching to get their fans back in the West Midlands for the beginning of the Premier League season.
That kicks off on the 12th of September, although if permission is granted, there will be much smaller crowds than the 20,000 of Wembley.
The national stadium obviously holds considerably more fans than the Hawthorns, therefore social distancing can be applied for that large of a group.
At more than three times less the size, on that basis, West Brom would only be allowed to host around 7,000 fans – but surely some would be better than none.
Boris Johnson did suggest that it would be October when fans are allowed to fill stadiums once again, but if this event is a success, testing with smaller groups could be given the green light at grounds such as The Hawthorns.
