West Brom & Aston Villa set sights on £60k/wk PL striker, West Mids switch appeals – report
West Brom and Aston Villa have joined Newcastle United in the race to sign Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to allnigeriasoccer.com.
The Nigerian news outlet claims that a move to The Hawthorns or Villa Park would appeal to Iheanacho, 23, as it means he wouldn’t have to move from his current home in the East Midlands.
Iheanacho scored 10 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions for Leicester this season as they finished fifth in the Premier League and West Brom need to upgrade their striker options ahead of next season.
Hal Robson-Kanu, Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore are, as it stands, Slaven Bilic’s three striker options.
There were little suggestions this season that any of those three have what it takes to score the goals to help keep West Brom in the Premier League next term so upgrades are a must.
Iheanacho has scored 21 goals in 117 Premier League appearances for both Manchester City and Leicester but has always been in the shadow of a Sergio Aguero or a Jamie Vardy.
The Nigeria international might be tempted by a team like the Baggies, who would undoubtedly have him as their first-choice striker ahead of the options Bilic currently has.
It remains to be seen how much Iheanacho would cost but he is in the final two years of his £60,000-a-week [Spotrac] deal at the King Power.
This summer could be Leicester’s final chance to get a decent fee for their second-choice striker so a deal does seem likely if West Brom can meet their demands.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies are set to bid £6.3million for this Croatia international.
