View: West Brom have been haunted before by reported target, free-agent move could be smart
West Brom are light on wingers now that the Championship season has finished, with a number of loan faces returning to their parent clubs.
Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson have returned to West Ham and Sheffield United respectively, leaving Slaven Bilic with limited options.
Matt Phillips and Kyle Edwards have both featured in the past year, but both have failed to have a similar impact to the loan stars at the Hawthorns.
The latest winger being linked with a move to the Hawthorns is Korede Adedoyin. AllNigeriaSoccer has reported that the Baggies are mulling over an offer for the youngster.
Adedoyin has been likened to Wilfried Zaha and is a free agent after recently being released from Goodison Park.
There is competition from Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke and Birmingham but no other Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest.
West Brom could have used their previous encounters with Adedoyin to scout him, with the winger having haunted them a number of times in recent years.
Going back to 2019, Adedoyin featured for the Toffees in the FA Youth Cup against the Baggies and it was going swimmingly until his side went down to 10-men.
Everton went two goals ahead against the young Baggies, with the winger scoring and impressing but going on to lose 4-3.
Adedoyin tormented West Brom that night, and that could have been one of the first times he caught the eye of staff at the Hawthorns. They could have been consulted about any potential move and could have a big say.
This isn’t the marquee signing we all expected, but it could be a smart move to bring Adedoyin to the club as a rotation option next season.
