John Percy details key update on why West Brom haven’t confirmed Matheus Pereira deal
West Brom are yet to confirm Matheus Pereira’s permanent switch to The Hawthorns because he has not yet signed the paperwork, according to John Percy.
Writing on The Telegraph’s website, Percy reports that the £8.25million signing from Sporting CP will be made official later this month once Pereira, 24, returns from his holiday.
After earning his 30th Championship start last season, an obligation-to-buy clause was triggered in Pereira’s loan deal.
Although that happened back in June, West Brom fans are still waiting for the club to make an official announcement but Pereira has all but confirmed the deal himself by saying his goodbyes to Sporting in a recent interview.
Albion fans haven’t exactly been panicking about the Pereira deal but there have been a lot of impatient supporters on social media who’ve claimed the club are dragging their heels over completing the signing.
However, there is absolutely nothing to worry about because this deal is as good as done and there’s probably going to be an announcement as soon as Pereira touches back down in the UK once he’s back off his holiday.
Based on Pereira’s most recent Instagram post, he’s unlikely to be in any rush to return to the Black Country.
However, we’ve no doubt that the Brazilian attacker is excited by the prospect of playing in the Premier League for the first time in his career.
He’s come a long way since joining Albion on loan from Sporting last summer and has shown in the Championship he is more than capable of making the step up to the Premier League.
In other West Brom news, this rising star has rejected offers from rival clubs to stay at the Baggies.
