West Brom can sign Robinson for less than £2m due to new development – reliable journo
West Brom can sign left-back target Antonee Robinson for less than £2million after Wigan’s relegation to League One was confirmed, according to Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan.
Sun journalist Alan Nixon reported in June that the Baggies had a “big chance” of signing 22-year-old Robinson this summer if they win promotion to the Premier League.
Of course, Slaven Bilic has since led Albion back to the top-flight and Wigan’s confirmed relegation means the USA international is up for grabs for a bargain fee due to a clause in his contract.
At least four Premier League clubs are said to be keen on the former Everton left-back with West Ham said to be one of them.
Wigan fans were anxiously awaiting the result of their appeal against a 12-point deduction for entering administration this season.
The Latic’s posted on Twitter on Tuesday that their effort to overturn their relegation to League One was unsuccessful.
Wigan now face a firesale this summer in an effort to raise funds so they can exit administration.
One of the players who seems destined to leave is Robinson, who almost joined AC Milan for £10million in January before failing a medical due to a heart issue.
He’s since undergone surgery to fix the issue and played a role for Paul Cook’s side after the Championship season resumed in June.
West Brom need a new left-back for life in the Premier League.
Kieran Gibbs has barely played this season due to several issues with his hamstring while Nathan Ferguson has left and Conor Townsend is untested and unproven in the top-flight.
We’d take Robinson, especially at the cut-price fee we’d be getting him for.
It is a massive, massive shame to see what has happened to Wigan but this is a deal that the Baggies should try their best to get involved in.
In other West Brom news, this rising star has rejected offers from rival clubs to stay at the Baggies.
