West Brom want to sell five players inc. academy duo with 63 combined first-team apps – report
West Brom want to cash in on five players this summer as Slaven Bilic aims to trim down the size of his squad, according to the Telegraph.
The newspaper claims that Albion are prepared to let Oliver Burke, Kenneth Zohore and Kieran Gibbs leave.
Gibbs’ wages have doubled to £55,000-a-week since winning promotion back to the Premier League while Burke has failed to impress since his £15million move from RB Leipzig in 2017 and Zohore’s also flopped since his £8million switch to The Hawthorns last summer.
Unexpectedly, The Telegraph reports that West Brom are also set to part ways with academy products Jonathan Leko and Sam Field this summer.
Both players were sent on loan to Charlton last summer and between them they have 63 first-team appearances for the Baggies.
However John Percy writes that they have now been made available to leave The Hawthorns, where they have both spent their entire senior careers to date.
We understand why Gibbs, Burke and Zohore are being moved on.
All of them have been expensive players for the Baggies and although Gibbs has barely put a foot wrong since joining from Arsenal, he is way too injury prone to be trusted in the Premier League for the wages he is reportedly earning.
As for Leko and Field, neither of them have really improved upon the level they were at a couple of years ago and their injury issues at The Valley haven’t helped.
West Brom need all the money they can get to help out in the transfer market this summer so cashing in on these players is a necessity.
In other West Brom news, this rising star has rejected offers from rival clubs to stay at the Baggies.
