West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at the prospect of re-signing loanee Filip Krovinovic ahead of their return to the Premier League.
The 24-year-old spent last term at The Hawthorns after joining from parent club Benfica in the summer, and was due to return to Portugal this summer upon the expiration of that deal.
According to The Telegraph, however, Albion are set to enter talks with Benfica over a second loan deal for Krovinovic.
And if a deal can be struck, we think that it would be brilliant news.
The Croatian impressed last season, especially as the campaign progressed, and The Telegraph had previously suggested that a bid of around £6 million could be on the cards this summer in an effort to secure his services on a permanent basis moving forward.
But it would appear that a loan deal is now more likely, and from Albion’s perspective at least, that would make a lot more sense.
Funds are set to be quite tight this summer, with a transfer budget of around £20 million likely to be handed to Slaven Bilic.
If the Baggies can get away without spending a substantial amount of that kitty then it can only be a good thing.
Factor in that Krovinovic has no Premier League experience – and therefore represents something of a gamble – and it makes a lot more sense for Albion to try before they buy.
What might be interesting, however, is to see whether there is any kind of option-to-buy clause written into the deal.
From Benfica’s point of view, you would assume that the best practice would be to include an obligation-to-buy, but if things go awry, West Brom could get stung.
Here are some of the best tweets from hopeful Baggies supporters:

Makes good business sense. Slap a buy in clause just incase he excels and it's a cracking deal

That sounds great to us but I don’t see why Benfica would agree to that, surely they’d want to play him or sell him. 🤔
