‘Phenomenal’, ‘Immense’ – These West Brom fans react to eight-figure summer transfer report
West Brom have been linked with a summer swoop for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, and while many fans have taken to Twitter to express their excitement at a potential deal, there also have some doubts.
The 28-year-old was relegated with the Cherries last season, and according to the print edition of the Mirror, has emerged as a target for Albion.
The Baggies could face competition from the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham, and Tottenham Hotspur though.
And for many Baggies supporters, the prospect of a bidding war raises some serious questions.
For one thing, Albion aren’t exactly rolling in cash this summer.
According to John Percy of The Telegraph, the Baggies will have around £20 million to spend this summer, but the Mirror suggest that Wilson will demand a fee of around that amount.
And that’s without taking into consideration his wages.
According to Spotrac, Wilson is on around £60,000-a-week, and that could easily be bumped up if a number of teams start to try and lure him away from the south coast.
Would Albion have the financial means to beat the likes of Spurs in a wooing contest?
Probably not, if we’re being completely honest.
Of course, we would love Wilson at The Hawthorns.
At 28, he is in the prime of his career, he’s an England international, and he has a very respectable tally of 41 Premier League goals in 126 appearances for Bournemouth.
But let’s not kid ourselves, it’s going to take something pretty special to get this one over the line.
