Report – PL rivals emerge as ‘very serious players’ in race for reported West Brom target

West Brom could face competition from Sheffield United in the race to sign Wigan Athletic full-back Antonee Robinson, according to The Sun reporter Alan Nixon.

The Baggies have been linked with a move for the defender for some time now, and it was recently reported that they could land their man for less than £2 million because of a relegation clause written into his contract with the Latics.

But it would appear that the Blades are eager to enter the race for the 23-year-old.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Sunday evening, Nixon wrote: “Sheff U.

“Now very serious players in the Antonee Robinson race.

“Bad news/good news for Wigan. Need sales.”

This isn’t good news for the Baggies.

For a while it has looked as if we were in the driving seat when it comes to where Robinson will be heading next season, but with this latest development, it would appear that we have serious competition.

Given that Robinson will cost less than £2 million, you would assume that any Premier League club who took a fancy to him would be able to afford him.

Therefore, it comes down to where he would prefer to be playing his football next term.

One factor that could help out cause in that respect is how solid Chris Wilder’s current left-back is.

Enda Stevens played all 38 Premier League matches for United last season, and it’s hard to see Wilder dropping somebody who he clearly has so much trust in.

You would imagine that Robinson will get more first team action at The Hawthorns.

Let’s just hope he sees it that way.

In other West Brom news, this rising star has rejected offers from rival clubs to stay at the Baggies.
