‘No surprise’, ‘Typical Albion’ – Many WBA fans react as Baggies reportedly lose race for 22y/o
There a clear number of positions that West Brom will need to strengthen in before the start of the Premier League season.
Steve Madeley of the Athletic reported that Slaven Bilic would like a new left-back as well as a fresh striker at the Hawthorns.
The reliable journalist admitted that left-back has become a priority though, with Kieran Gibbs suffering from injuries again last season.
The Telegraph reported that Gibbs has been made available to leave the club, with Wigan’s Antonee Robinson a clear target.
Robinson was available for around £2million this summer after the Latics had their relegation to League One confirmed recently.
It’s not good news though, with the Mirror’s David Anderson reporting on his personal Twitter account on Monday that Sheffield United appear to have won the race.
For the Baggies to miss out is not good enough. West Brom had been in talks with Robinson weeks before Sheffield United registered their interest and they have reportedly lost the race.
Robinson was Wigan’s standout player last season, and almost joined AC Milan – that’s just how good he was and West Brom could have missed the chance of a real bargain.
Many West Brom fans have reacted to the latest update, with the majority not one bit surprised. One said, “Only £2million, we will live to regret that one I’m sure.”
Should Gibbs leave, Conor Townsend will be the only available left-back at the club and Bilic will need to act much quicker than he did with this deal to ensure he has options.
