Report – PL rivals willing to part with reported West Brom target this summer

West Brom have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Brighton defender Shane Duffy, according to The Sun.

The Baggies have emerged as a potential destination for the centre-back in the coming weeks, with the Daily Mail reporting that they have already held talks with the Seagulls over a possible transfer.

And now The Sun have delivered an update on Brighton’s defensive priorities this summer.

The south coast club currently have six senior centre-backs at the Amex Stadium following the arrival of Dutchman Joel Veltman earlier in the transfer window.

As well as interest in Duffy, Leeds United are understood to have made two bids for 22-year-old Ben White, who spent last season on loan at Elland Road.

According to the national outlet, however, Graham Potter’s men are keen to hang on to White, but would be a lot more open to the prospect of selling Duffy as a means of thinning out their squad.

This is a really positive update for Albion.

Duffy is a quality player with plenty of Premier League experience, and it makes sense that Slaven Bilic would want to strengthen the centre of his defence.

Kevin Phillips has previously told West Brom News that he believes it is an area in need of real attention this summer, and with Ahmed Hegazi and Kyle Bartley both failing to hold down a consistent starting spot in the latter stages of last season, we’d be inclined to agree.

Albion’s cause is aided by the fact West Ham are not willing to enter a bidding war for the player, as per reliable journalist Paul Brown.

We look to be in the driving seat on this one, and this latest update only serves to strengthen our cause.

In other West Brom news, Albion are in talks over a loan-to-buy deal for this midfielder.
