View: West Brom must switch attention to reported target at Brentford after missing out on 22y/o
West Brom looked destined to sign Wigan Athletic defender Antonee Robinson this summer.
Left-back is a priority for Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns, with the United States international available for £2million after the Latics’ relegation to League One was confirmed.
The Baggies look to have missed out though, with Sheffield United reportedly jumping at the last minute to bring Robinson to Bramall Lane.
Many West Brom fans reacted to the news on Monday, with the majority not surprised at how slow their club moved to confirm any sort of deal.
That must change quickly. Earlier in the month, the Daily Mail reported that the Albion were interested in Brentford defender Rico Henry.
After Brentford somehow missed out on promotion, a number of their brightest talents are starting to attract strong interest.
West Brom must learn from their past mistakes though, with Leeds and Fulham also reportedly interested in Henry.
Henry was the standout left-back in the Championship last season, and although he won’t be as cheap as Robinson was, the draw of Premier League football should help.
The 23-year-old can play as a wing-back also, meaning that it will give Bilic the flexibility to change to back five if he would like against the so-called bigger teams.
Henry averages almost two progressive runs per game, and also wins over five offensive duels according to WyScout.
With Kieran Gibbs available to leave, Henry would add significantly more attacking threat than Conor Townsend with Bilic surely set to hit the Premier League with his fast-flowing style.
The Baggies must learn from their mistakes with Robinson, and move even quicker to get a deal over the line for Henry.
