Sky Sports journalist: West Brom in talks to re-sign int’l striker after successful first spell

West Brom have held initial talks about re-signing Callum Robinson from Sheffield United this summer, according to Rob Dorsett.

The Sky Sports journalist reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday that the Baggies are keen to sign Robinson, 25, up on a “substantive deal” but other clubs are interested in him too.

Robinson enjoyed a successful loan spell at West Brom last season despite only arriving on a short-term basis from Sheffield United in January.

He made an instant impact for Slaven Bilic as he stood in for the injured Grady Diangana on the left-wing.

The former Aston Villa forward also played as a striker on the final day of the season when he scored in the crucial 2-2 draw with QPR that confirmed West Brom’s promotion back to the Premier League.

In total, Robinson scored three goals and supplied two assists in 16 appearances for Albion.

You can understand why Slaven Bilic would want to take the Republic of Ireland international back with Sky Sports’ Dorsett suggesting the deal could be a permanent one.

Robinson knows the area, he knows the club, he knows the players and knows the manager and his system so signing up someone like that less risky than going in for an unknown.

However, Robinson struggled at Sheffield United during the first half of last season in the Premier League as he barely made Chris Wilder’s starting line-up.

If reports about a £25million transfer budget are true, how much of it are West Brom risking to blow to sign a player who might only be seen as a back-up option?

Dorsett says Robinson is a striker and he can play there but he can also play on the left-wing.

His versatility is handy for a back-up player but Bilic needs to bring in players who are improvements upon those who are usually in the starting line-up.
