Dean Ashton names four West Brom & Leeds players in Championship team of season
Dean Ashton has named just four players from West Brom and Leeds United in his team of the season despite those two clubs claiming the top two spots in the Championship.
As revealed on the Quest Twitter account, Matheus Pereira was the only Baggies player included in Ashton’s Championship team of the season.
The ex-Norwich striker also included three players from Leeds United as Ben White, Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips made the cut.
Brentford had a good season and finished third in the league but we feel that Ashton has taken their late-season form into account too much here.
David Raya, Ethan Pinnock, Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins ensured that there were more players from Brentford than any other club in Ashton’s team.
We’re not going to argue that many more West Brom players than Pereira should be included in the team but Semi Ajayi had to be a shout in the centre of the defence while Grady Diangana could have been included too if he hadn’t struggled as badly with injuries.
Leeds fans probably have more to debate here.
Pablo Hernandez and Stuart Dallas were two of their best players this season.
Team of the seasons always create a bit of a debate and we’re not that far away from Ashton in terms of agreeing a team.
We might be biased but we’d have Ajayi in there for Pinnock and because he did so well for Leeds, Dallas should probably be in at left-back over Joe Bryan.
The goalkeeper position is always one that’s hard to choose but Raya’s had some questionable displays for Brentford this season.
Then again, no goalkeeper in the Championship is unable to have the odd stinker here and there.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has told the Baggies to take a gamble on signing this former Leeds attacker.
