‘I’m told’ – Reliable journalist delivers key update on why Pereira deal is being held up
West Brom fans have been waiting patiently for confirmation over a permanent deal for Matheus Pereira.
The 24-year-old attacker was a massive part of Bilic’s promotion-winning side and will be a key man in the Premier League.
The good news is that there are no serious issues. Athletic journalist Steve Madeley delivered the positive update in a Q&A on Wednesday morning.
One West Brom fan asked, “How come Matheus Pereira hasn’t been confirmed by the club yet? Thought they’d be all over it after promotion.”
Madeley replied, “I’m told there are some contractual issues being ironed out, Mark, but not any that can stop the deal happening. There seems to be total calm at the club about it.”
This is good news – the words “total calm” fill us full of confidence.
We’re convinced that the deal will go through and hopefully as soon as Pereira returns from his holiday.
He’s been snapped with Filip Krovinovic in Croatia and if the contractual issues are sorted by the time he returns it should be a formality.
The other good news is that it sounds like the deal for Pereira is separate from the £25m budget that Bilic has reportedly been handed for the summer transfer window.
Some fans have been worried that £25m isn’t enough to keep West Brom in the Premier League, but add in Pereira and more cash from outgoings, and we think it will be fine if Bilic is prudent with his spending.
These are tough times for everyone and it’s not the window to be throwing cash around like Aston Villa did last summer.
They spent over £100m and almost got relegated, which would have been disastrous for the Baggies rivals.
