‘Upgrade on Phillips’, ‘Excellent’ – Many West Brom fans thrilled by Sky journo transfer update

West Brom fans are delighted with the news that the club has held talks with Sheffield United about re-signing Callum Robinson.

Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has reported that while there are other teams who are interested in signing the 25-year-old, Albion are hoping to take the forward back to The Hawthorns, potentially on a permanent basis.

Robinson joined West Brom on loan from Sheffield United in January and went on to score three goals and supply two assists in 16 appearances for the Black Country club.

When he arrived in January, it was clear that Slaven Bilic saw Robinson as a replacement for Grady Diangana on the left-wing while the England Under-21 international was recovering from a hamstring injury.

Once Diangana was back to full health, Robinson did lose his place in Bilic’s starting line-up but was used as a centre-forward on the final day of the campaign when he scored a crucial goal in the 2-2 draw with QPR.

Robinson endeared himself to Baggies fans with his celebrations after promotion was secured and a lot of supporters would be pleased to see him back at The Hawthorns for the club’s first year back in the Premier League.

Is Robinson an upgrade on Matt Phillips?

While Robinson is younger and was more effective last season, he only has 20 Premier League appearances to his name compared to Phillips’ 109.

Phillips has the experience but he also plays on the right-wing and Robinson plays on either the left and up front.

West Brom’s attack could do with new faces in pretty much every position.
