West Brom look set to miss out on NK Lokomotiva's Ivo Grbic with the goalkeeper set to join Atletico Madrid, according to 24 Sata.

The Croatian news outlet claims that Grbic, 24, is joining Atletico in a deal worth up to £5.4million after agreeing to sign a four-year contract with the La Liga club.

He is now set to undergo a medical in Madrid before completing his move.

Express & Star journalist Joseph Masi reported on Wednesday that Albion were interested in signing the Croatian shot-stopper but it seems that Slaven Bilic has already missed out on his man.

West Brom reportedly saw Grbic as someone who can provide genuine competition for the number one jersey at The Hawthorns.

Sam Johnstone has started every league match for the last two seasons with Jonathan Bond and Ali Al-Habsi serving as back-up options for Bilic.

Johnstone has been heavily criticised for his performances by certain sections of the Baggies fanbase and it seems that Bilic might be trying to improve his form by getting in someone who can really apply pressure on him.

While Grbic is not a household name, there must be something about him for a club like Atletico Madrid to sign him on a long-term basis.

It is encouraging that the Baggies are looking at players like this because it suggests that Bilic and Luke Dowling have a good shortlist of targets for the summer.

However, the more they miss out, the quality of those targets might get progressively worse and we don't want to see a late transfer window dash to bring in someone who clearly isn't up to scratch.
