Report details when some new West Brom signings will be made amid quiet start to summer

West Brom are likely to wait until the latter stages of the transfer window before signing some new players, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper claims that the Baggies feel as though they can strike better deals once the 2020/21 Premier League season has already kicked off.

That means that West Brom could do a lot of their business in mid-October.

The transfer window slams shut on October 16 and between then and when the Premier League season kicks off on September 12, Albion only have four matches to play despite anticipating six or seven.

The Express & Star says that the uncongested fixture list means there will be less pressure on Slaven Bilic and Luke Dowling to secure late transfer window deals.

However, that doesn’t mean we don’t expect deals to be done and dusted in the meantime.

Yes, it has been a quiet start to the transfer window with West Brom signing exactly zero new players since winning promotion to the Premier League despite letting several players leave at the end of their contracts.

There are also players who’ve returned to their parent clubs since their loan deals expired at The Hawthorns but, with Matheus Pereira, the Express & Star say his permanent deal with West Brom will be announced “soon”.

It is a risky strategy to wait late into the window to secure the bulk of new signings.

As mentioned, the season will have already started by then and new players need time to settle down, get used to Bilic’s system, new team-mates and the change of scenery.

Of course, some players are good at hitting the ground running and, at the end of the day, every transfer has some risk attached.
