‘Embarrassing’, ‘Deadwood’ – Many West Brom fans fume over defender transfer report

West Brom fans are less than pleased with the club’s reported interest in Basaksehir right-back Junior Caicara.

The Sun reported earlier this week that the Baggies and West Ham are battling each other to sign the 31-year-old Brazilian, who is available for £3million this summer.

It is understood that Caicara also holds a Bulgarian passport, which means that there would not be any issues in him getting a work permit to play in the Premier League.

Caicara won the Turkish Super Lig last season with Basaksehir, earning 44 appearances in all competitions.

Although he’s available on the cheap and can move to the UK without any red tape getting in the way, do West Brom really need him?

Based on the reaction of these fans, they would not be too pleased if Slaven Bilic signs up the former Schalke right-back.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

We understand why fans would not be pleased with Caicara.

Firstly, £3million is quite a lot for a player in the final year of his contract and is 31-years-old.

Also, the right-back position is also not an area of the squad that needs bolstering just yet with Darnell Furlong and Dara O’Shea both able to play there.

West Brom fans have pointed to the Brazilian’s age and the fact that the club wants to bring down the average age of the squad.

While we agree that we’d rather sign younger players with resale value, the average age of the squad has already gone down with players like Ali Al-Habsi, Lee Peltier, Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry being moved on.

Adding in Caicara would not make much difference.

In other West Brom news, Albion are set to announce the permanent signing of this loan star soon.
