PL rivals preparing £50k/wk deal for 23y/o in bid to beat WBA to signing – reports
The pursuit of Antonee Robinson appeared well and truly dead in the water for West Brom only a couple of weeks ago.
It was reported by David Anderson that Sheffield United had won the race to sign the Wigan defender ahead of the Baggies and West Ham.
With no official announcement having been made though, it appears that Slaven Bilic and the Albion could have a chance of securing the 23-year-old.
Things don’t appear to be as straight forward as that though, with newly-promoted Fulham now joining the party.
The Sun has reported that the Cottagers are ready to offer Robinson £50,000-a-week at Craven Cottage in a bid to jump ahead of West Brom in the race.
Previously, the left-back admitted that he wants to move to a place where he can get guaranteed first-choice football.
Now, according to the Sun’s report, the American international is ready to rival Joe Bryan under Scott Parker and fight for his place.
That sort of money seems ludicrous for a 23-year-old who didn’t make it at Everton and has only impressed at the DW Stadium.
But, one thing that this report does do is highlight that Robinson is now well-and-truly back in the market, rather than going to the Blades.
Slaven Bilic is reportedly ready to let Kieran Gibbs leave the Hawthorns this summer, with the injury-prone defender suffering yet another blow.
Promotion to the Premier League saw Gibbs’ wage double to £55,000-a-week, so if the veteran left the club, the Baggies would have the funds to sanction this move.
Bilic may think otherwise though and want to spend those sort of wages of more than one player – meaning the Albion could yet miss out on Robinson.
