Club insider rules out West Brom in pursuit of £40k/wk PL defender
West Brom have been in pursuit of Brighton defender Shane Duffy for a number of weeks now.
The Seagulls are open to selling the 28-year-old, with a number of different clubs interested including West Ham and Celtic.
It was reported that the Baggies are favourites to sign Duffy permanently, with Celtic only interested in paying a £2million loan fee [Daily Mail].
All may not be as it seems though. Monday has seen a less-than-exciting update for the Albion fans regarding their pursuit of Duffy.
West Ham insider, exWHUemployee, has posted an update on his personal Twitter account claiming the race is between two sides.
“Correct,” he answered when asked if it’s between Celtic and the Irons.
“We haven’t spoken to him since Friday so be interesting to see if we move for further talks or not.”
This is a West Ham insider, so it is difficult to know how much he knows regarding the Baggies and their transfer business.
ExWHUemployee has become a reliable news source for the Hammers fans though so he may be close to the truth with what he shares.
Other reports, as shown, have claimed that the Baggies are favourites to sign the £40,000-a-week defender [Spotrac] so not all is lost.
Leeds have also been credited with an interest in the Republic of Ireland international over the weekend, and they have also been ruled out by this insider.
Everything else is pointing towards West Brom being well and truly in the race, but we can’t help but think there may be some substance behind his claims.
Let’s cross our fingers for this one Baggies.
