Medical done: Derby beat West Brom to new signing – reports
West Brom have been beaten by Derby County in the race to sign Wigan goalkeeper David Marshall, according to reports.
The Telegraph journalist John Percy reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night that the 35-year-old goalkeeper will be announced as a new signing by Derby on Wednesday after he completed a medical with the Championship club.
The Sun reported earlier on Tuesday that West Brom were interested in signing Marshall after an impressive season at the DW Stadium but have missed out due to only seeing him as a second-choice goalkeeper option.
It seems that the Scottish shot-stopper has favoured a move to Pride Park so that he can play more often and keep his international career alive.
You cannot blame Marshall for taking that stance because, at the end of the day, we all say that players shouldn’t move to clubs where they won’t play.
Sam Johnstone has played every Championship matches of the last two seasons for the Baggies and unless someone a lot better than him comes in this summer, it’s likely to stay that way in the Premier League.
Marshall’s a very experienced goalkeeper with 33 caps for Scotland and over 400 Championship appearances to his name.
He should end up being a good signing for Derby and with The Sun reporting that he’s joining them for a “small sum”, it seems like quite bargain too.
