‘He wants to’ – Friend of Shane Duffy potentially sheds light on next move with WBA interested

West Brom appeared to have been one of the frontrunners for the signature of Brighton defender Shane Duffy.

The Daily Mail reported more than two weeks ago that the Baggies had held talks with their Premier League rivals over a move for the Irish international.

Things change quickly though, and both West Ham and Celtic have attempted to hijack the switch since those talks.

With three clubs interested, it appears that the final decision will come down to the player himself.

A friend of Duffy, Sean Roddy, was recently messaged by a West Ham fan demanding that the defender moved to the London Stadium and his response could be telling.

“He wants to lad,” he wrote. “Find out this week.”

The interchange was shared by Hammers fan @ThomasWHUFC on Sunday afternoon, and it doesn’t make for good reading.

So, West Brom could be set for disappointment, yet again.

Slaven Bilic has shared his frustration at the club’s owners recently, claiming that the budget set at the Hawthorns is not enough.

The Croatian insisted that the Albion must not become one of those clubs that consistently go between the Premier League and the Championship, and to do that, they must invest.

Bilic is spot on. This would be a major disappointment to miss out on Duffy, especially when you consider the fee isn’t that high.

The enforcer is only on £40,000-a-week and Brighton need to offload some defenders, with Graham Potter having too many on his books this season.

It appears that West Ham have stolen a march on the Baggies, who have taken too long to try and force a deal over the line.
