West Brom may finalise summer transfer No 2 this week, talks held for PL man – reliable journo

West Brom could seal the signing of Brighton goalkeeper David Button by the end of this week, according to Express & Star journalist Joseph Masi.

Telegraph journalist John Percy had reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday that Albion were in talks to sign the 31-year-old shot-stopper in a deal worth around £1million.

Later on Monday, Masi added on Twitter that he’s heard the deal to take Button to The Hawthorns “could all be done this week”.

Button failed to make any Premier League appearances for Brighton as he was an unused substitute for every single fixture.

He did, however, play once in the FA Cup and twice in the Carabao Cup, conceding five goals in the process.

Slaven Bilic has clearly set his sights on adding to his goalkeeper options this summer with the Baggies usually always keen to have three senior goalkeepers at their disposal.

At the moment, there are three goalkeepers in pre-season training with Albion: current number one Sam Johnstone, Alex Palmer and out-of-contract Jonathan Bond.

Button has more experience than the three goalkeepers West Brom already have with the former Fulham and Brentford man earning almost 300 league appearances in his career.

We expect Johnstone to keep hold of the number one shirt next season if Button is brought in but what happens to Palmer and Bond is up in the air.

Palmer was superb on loan at Plymouth last season as he won the League Two PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award.

He’s 24-years-old but has never played above the fourth-tier of English football so West Brom might feel as though he needs another season out on loan.

If Palmer’s loaned out, Bond could be offered a new contract so Bilic’s goalkeeper pecking order is Johnstone, Button and Bond.

It has been a quiet start to the summer transfer window for West Brom, who have only completed one deal since winning promotion to the Premier League and that was to sign Matheus Pereira on a permanent basis from Sporting CP.

With little progress being made in other areas, it seems that Button could be the club’s second summer addition within the coming days.

In other West Brom news, Kaveh Solhekol has said how many new signings Bilic wants to make before the season kicks off next month.
