West Brom agree club-record fee to sign new player – reliable journalist
West Brom have agreed a deal with QPR for attacker Eberechi Eze – but the Baggies are unlikely to convince the player to head to The Hawthorns, according to The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.
The reporter wrote on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that Albion have agreed to pay QPR a fee worth £17million over a series of installments.
However, Madeley adds that while West Brom and QPR have reached an agreement, Eze himself might not be too keen with the 22-year-old said to be in favour of joining another club in London.
If Albion manage to sign Eze then the £17million swoop for him will be a new club record as the current record is the £15million spent on Oliver Burke in 2017.
However that seems unlikely based on Greenwich-born Eze’s desire to stay in the capital and widely reported interest from Crystal Palace.
Eze lit up the Championship with his performances last season as he scored 14 goals and supplied eight assists in 46 league appearances.
He scored a wonderful solo goal against West Brom on the final day of the Championship season in a 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns and Slaven Bilic was spotted talking to the 22-year-old on the pitch after the match.
Kevin Phillips told West Brom News in May that he would support a move to sign Eze, saying: “He’s young, he’s exciting and if you can get him at the right price, sometimes it’s worth taking that gamble.”
In other West Brom news, Kaveh Solhekol has said how many new signings Bilic wants to make before the season kicks off next month.
