West Brom table £17m offer to sign attacker, current highest-bidders – Times journalist
West Brom are currently the highest-bidders in the race to sign QPR attacker Eberechi Eze, according to Times journalist Duncan Castles.
The reporter wrote on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning that QPR have not agreed a fee with any clubs as of yet but, as it stands, the Baggies have offered £17million for the 22-year-old.
The Telegraph had reported that Crystal Palace had a £19.5million bid accepted by QPR for Eze.
However, Castles refutes that, saying the Championship club are yet to accept any offers for their main man, who scored 14 goals – one of which came against West Brom – and supplied eight assists in 46 Championship appearances last season.
Since Castles posted his tweet, Sun journalist Alan Nixon has backed up the claim that West Brom have tabled a bid for Eze.
However, Nixon is adamant Palace have had a bid accepted by QPR and Eze is keen on joining the South London club.
Eze was one of the stand-out players in the second-tier last season even though QPR finished mid-table.
According to WhoScored, the Baggies transfer target completed more dribbles [136] than any other Championship player and ranked ninth for the number of key passes he produced [82].
West Brom have only signed one player so far this summer with Matheus Pereira joining in a permanent deal from Sporting CP after a successful loan spell in the Black Country.
Eze played on either the left-wing or as a number 10 for QPR last term so if Albion are signing him, you would imagine that Slaven Bilic sees him as a left-winger who could potentially replace Grady Diangana after his loan spell at The Hawthorns ended.
Based on the aforementioned stats, Eze has the ability to turn defences inside out and provide the cutting edge needed in the attack.
Whether or not he can maintain that form in the Premier League is a question that we might find out the answer to over the coming months.
In other West Brom news, Kaveh Solhekol has said how many new signings Bilic wants to make before the season kicks off next month.
