‘Hard to say no’ – Manager comments on potential double swoop for West Brom duo

Lincoln City manager Michael Appleton has admitted it would be hard to say no to signing West Brom duo Alex Palmer and Callum Morton this summer.

Both Palmer and Morton excelled in League Two last season, both earning promotion to League One at Plymouth and Northampton respectively.

The rewards for the duo were new contracts at the Hawthorns, although they may have to wait longer for a chance in the midlands.

Appleton admitted that he wants another great goalkeeper at the LNER Stadium, and Palmer is one on his shortlist.

“The reality is we need another goalkeeper,” he told Lincolnshire Live.

“It wouldn’t take rocket science to work out that Alex [Palmer] would definitely be one of those people.

Talking about Morton, Appleton wasn’t able to resist admitting that he would love the striker next season in League One.

“Again it would be hard to say no.”

“I think there’s going to be numerous clubs as well, similar to Alex where they’re going to try to acquire their services.

“Hopefully my relationship with West Brom and knowing the players personally will give us a decent opportunity to try and get them.”

Morton

West Brom were only going to allow Palmer to leave on one condition this summer. Slaven Bilic wants to solve his own depth issues before sanctioning that loan.

The Baggies have held talks with Brighton keeper David Button this week, and are closing in on a £1million deal this week according to Joseph Masi.

The future of Morton will be much more straight forward, and he will be expected to leave the club on loan and where better for both than with their former under-23s coach Appleton?
