Medical scheduled: Forward on verge of West Brom exit – Sky Sports

Young forward Jonathan Leko is on the verge of leaving West Brom to join Birmingham City, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported via their live transfer blog on Thursday [11:56am] that Leko, 21, is on his way to Birmingham to undergo a medical after a £1million fee was agreed between Blues and the Baggies.

Sheffield Wednesday also had a bid accepted by Albion but it seems Birmingham have won the race to sign the DR Congo-born attacker.

Leko joined Charlton on a season-long loan last summer and performed brilliantly at The Valley by scoring five goals and supplying four assists in 21 total appearances.

However, Leko failed to make more appearances due to a serious knee injury that cut short his loan spell earlier than anticipated.

The Express & Star recently reported that Leko is still recovering from that injury and although Slaven Bilic is a long-term admirer of him, the West Brom boss has clearly taken the decision that offloading the 21-year-old is the best decision.

Leko is unlikely to get much first-team football with the Baggies in the Premier League and joining Blues – where he’s likely to play a lot more often – is definitely going to be the best move for his career.

It is a shame that it never quite worked out for Leko at The Hawthorns but he does leave the club with plenty of Premier League and Championship experience under his belt as well as a spot in the England youth set-up.

As long as he stays fit, we expect him to flourish at St Andrew’s.

In other West Brom news, Albion have upped their bid to sign this highly-rated player.
