Sky Sports journalist: West Brom reach agreement to sign centre-back

West Brom have reached an agreement to sign Wigan Athletic defender Cedric Kipre, according to Rob Dorsett.

The Sky Sports journalist reported that the Baggies are closing in on signing the 23-year-old after reaching a “broad agreement”.

It has been claimed that the Albion have negotiated with Wigan’s administrators over the fee, with the Latics struggling for cash.

Dorsett claimed that a number of clubs were interested in the defender, but the Premier League status of the Baggies has swung it there way.

Kipre was in Leicester City’s academy in the early stages of his career and will move back to the top-flight via Motherwell and Wigan next season.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon claimed earlier on Thursday afternoon that West Brom’s move for Kipre would be a massive blow for Blackburn, who were in advanced negotiations.

What sort of fee will West Brom be paying? The Lancashire Telegraph have recently claimed that Blackburn had agreed to a fee just above £1million.

Wigan were looking for a six-figure fee, and that will also give the Albion a chance to secure a cheap masterclass – similar to the Semi Ajayi deal from Rotherham last season.

Ajayi was superb in guiding the Baggies to the Premier League, and the Nigerian enforcer is guaranteed to start in the top-flight.

Should Kipre join, it will most likely be the 23-year-old or Kyle Bartley who partners Ajayi and Slaven Bilic will be delighted to get this deal over the line.

Ahmed Hegazi has previously been labelled as the “most obvious” senior player to leave this summer, so watch this space after this deal.
