West Brom trying to sign £1m+ EFL centre-back – reports
West Brom have entered the race for Wigan defender Cedric Kipre, according to Alan Nixon.
The reliable journalist shared on his personal Twitter account that the Baggies are trying hard to secure the Ivorian enforcer.
Wigan are currently having a fire sale at the DW Stadium after their relegation to League One, with their financial worries continuing.
Nixon admitted in his latest update that Championship side Blackburn are set for disappointment in their pursuit of Kipre with the Albion emerging late.
The Lancashire Telegraph recently reported that Wigan were holding out for more than £1million for the 23-year-old in negotiations with Blackburn.
According to that report, the two clubs had reached a six-figure agreement, although that is set to be hijacked by Slaven Bilic.
Fellow Premier League side West Ham have also enquired about Kipre this summer according to the Daily Mail, with West Brom now in the lead.
The centre of defence has become a priority position at the Hawthorns, with a number of different options being named as targets.
Shane Duffy of Brighton was set to be closing in on a move to the Baggies but now looks likely to join either Celtic or West Ham.
As well as Duffy, the Athletic’s Steve Madeley reported that Kris Ajer of Celtic was a target for the Albion, but could cost close to £20million – a big problem.
Kipre would be available for much-cheaper and was impressive for the Latics last season, and it appears that the Baggies have found their man.
