‘Masterstroke’, ‘Steal’ – Many WBA fans delighted as Baggies close in on ‘Quality’ defender
West Brom have been in the market for a central defender for a number of weeks.
Slaven Bilic has been keen to add a new enforcer at the Hawthorns, with Shane Duffy and Kris Ajer two of the names to be mentioned.
Celtic look to be in the driving seat for Duffy, and could demand up to £20million for Ajer – something which makes the deal near-impossible.
Reliable journalist Alan Nixon reported on Thursday that West Brom are pushing to sign Wigan defender Cedric Kipre.
According to Nixon, the Baggies are set to beat Blackburn to the signature of the Ivorian defender from the cash-strapped Latics.
The Lancashire Telegraph have previously reported that Blackburn and Wigan were close to agreeing a £1million-plus deal for Kipre.
It was suggested that the League One club are demanding a six-figure fee – something which could be seen as a bargain by many.
Kipre was one of the signing lights for Wigan last season, who would have survived comfortably if it wasn’t for their points deduction.
The 23-year-old impressed at Motherwell too before sealing his switch to Wigan, and it looks like the Baggies could be about to take advantage of the struggles at the DW Stadium.
Many West Brom fans have reacted to the latest update, claiming that it could be similar to the masterstroke the Albion completed when signing Semi Ajayi from Rotherham last season.
