‘One to keep your eyes on’ – E&S journo claims WBA are keen on 20y/o who is ‘destined’ for move

A potential West Brom move for Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher is “one to keep your eyes” this summer, according to the Express & Star journalist Joseph Masi.

The Baggies have made a relatively slow start to the transfer window, but are understood to have a long-standing interest in the midfielder, who spent last season on loan with Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.

Albion’s interest in the player was initially reported by The Athletic earlier this year.

But now that their promotion to the Premier League has been sealed, Masi has hinted that there could be some distance left to run in West Brom’s pursuit of the 20-year-old.

Writing in a piece for the Express & Star, Masi said: “Albion have a long-term interest in is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

“The midfielder impressed on loan at Charlton and Swansea last season and looks destined to secure a temporary switch to the Premier League in the current window.

“A potential move to The Hawthorns is one to keep your eyes on.”

If West Brom can wrap up a deal for the youngster it could prove to be quite the coup.

Last season, he averaged a dribble success rate that was 7.1% higher than Filip Krovinovic’s, as well as a shot accuracy rate that was superior by 9.4%, as per Wyscout.

Granted, there are other areas where he falls short compared to the Croatian loanee, such as his pass completion rate – which is 6.5% worse – but he is only 20, and for the most part he looks like a very exciting prospect.

If he is “destined” for a move to the top flight, we really hope he ends up at The Hawthorns.
