QPR & Coventry want to sign West Brom centre-mid – report
QPR, Coventry, Huddersfield and Barnsley are all interested in signing West Brom midfielder Sam Field, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The newspaper reports on their website that the four Championship clubs are considering moves for the 22-year-old central midfielder, who the Baggies are ready to move on this summer.
Belgian club K.V. Oostende are also understood to be interested in Field after he spent an injury-hit season out on loan at Charlton last term as they were relegated to League One.
Field was viewed as one of the most exciting young talents to emerge from West Brom’s academy when he broke into the first-team in the 2015/16 season.
The Stourbridge-born player, who is a lifelong West Brom supporter, has since earned 40 appearances in all competitions for the Black Country club, scoring two goals in the process which came against Newcastle and Bolton.
Field still has another two years left on his contract but Albion may feel as though the midfielder has come to a natural point in his career where it is time to move on.
After spending so much of last season on the sidelines at Charlton due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, it is understandable that Slaven Bilic will try to move the midfielder on.
He’s 22 now and it won’t help his development to be stuck in the Under-23s and with Bilic’s transfer budget so restricted, selling any players who aren’t needed in the first-team is a good way to raise funds.
It remains to be seen who will land Field but Coventry obviously represent the chance for him to stay local whereas Oostende promise of top-flight football in Belgium could be a big pull.
In other West Brom news, the club is reportedly in advanced talks to sign this centre-back.
