Sky Sports: London club not actively looking to sell player despite holding WBA talks
West Brom are looking to sign Watford striker Troy Deeney this summer.
Football Insider have reported that the two clubs have opened talks recently, and the 32-year-old has become Slaven Bilic’s number one target in the final third.
The Hornets were relegated from the Premier League last season, with Deeney potentially swapping London for the midlands.
Sky Sports have confirmed the Baggies interest in Deeney on Friday afternoon, with Watford set to lose a number of players.
It has been reported that the London club are not actively looking to sell the striker though, and will sit down with his representatives next week at Vicarage Road.
This isn’t dreadful news though, with other reports suggesting that Deeney has only been offered to the Baggies in a loan switch.
The Telegraph claimed that a temporary switch would suit the Albion due to their underwhelming transfer budget this summer.
Deeney has a wealth of Premier League experience, making 163 appearances in the top-flight for Watford.
In those games, he has also managed to score 47 goals and deliver 21 assists, not a bad record for a side who primarily occupied the bottom-half.
On £65,000-a-week [Spotrac] it won’t be cheap, but the Baggies need players who have proven themselves in the Premier League next season.
Bilic has made it no secret that he needs more competition for both Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu, so let’s hope that these discussions between Watford and Deeney are to sanction that loan exit.
