Tottenham could rival West Brom in race to sign £65k-a-wk forward – Journalist
West Brom have been offered the chance to take Watford striker Troy Deeney next season.
The Hornets have recently been relegated to the Championship and will look to offload some of their highest-earners at Vicarage Road.
According to the Telegraph, the Baggies are plotting a loan move for the 32-year-old due to their underwhelming transfer budget.
In a familiar turn of events, West Brom may not be targeting the striker alone though.
The Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi claimed that one of the Baggies fellow Premier League sides could have taken an interest.
“Though the Baggies have a limited transfer budget, a loan deal would suit both clubs,” he wrote.
“Tottenham are also thought to have expressed an interest in taking Deeney as a back-up to Harry Kane.”
Spurs have already beaten the Albion to the signing of Joe Hart this summer, and this could be the second player they attract to the capital.
Slaven Bilic would not be happy if his side missed out on the £65,000-a-week striker [Spotrac], especially after a recent interview.
The Croatian has already shared his frustration with the club’s owners over their limited budget, something that this won’t help if they miss out.
With Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu the only options in the final third at the Hawthorns, one would have thought that the Baggies would look for a younger option.
That doesn’t seem to be the case, with the Albion still not even guaranteed to secure the services of Deeney.
