‘Yes please’, ‘No brainer’ – Many WBA fans react to ‘perfect’ transfer update on hitman
West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to give their backing to the Baggies making a move for Troy Deeney this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Albion have been offered the chance to sign the Watford captain following the Hornets’ relegation from the top flight.
The Telegraph went on to expand on that report by suggesting that any agreement for the 32-year-old would likely be a loan deal.
And many fans are seeing this one as a “no-brainer”.
It is understood that Slaven Bilic may be reluctant to make a move, however.
The Mail suggest that the Croatian is eager to lower the average age of his squad, and would see the signing of a 32-year-old to lead his line as a step in the wrong direction.
But we at West Brom News are inclined to agree with the fanbase on this one.
Granted, Albion could probably do with bringing in some young blood in an ideal world.
The Mail’s report also mentions how Bilic is a “huge fan” of 22-year-old Huddersfield Town striker Karlan Grant, for instance.
But Deeney is a player with over 160 Premier League appearances to his name, as well as 47 top flight strikes.
Last season alone he reached double figures in a Watford side that were ultimately so bad they went down.
If the deal is only a temporary one too, it feels like a fairly low risk option for Albion.
Bring Deeney in for a year for his top flight experience and obvious knack for unsettling defences, and if it doesn’t work out, send him back to Vicarage Road at the end of the campaign.
If he does set the place alight, reassess in 12 months’ time and maybe look to make things permanent.
An opportunity like this doesn’t come along every day, and the Baggies would be foolish to not at least explore it.
